Yay! First Blog!
Progress:
In order to reach my overall goal of learning to play the ukulele, I have to push myself to reach the quarterly goals first. So, my goal for this quarter is to learn the basics of the ukulele. Learning the basics is important, because I have to know how each part functions, what each part is called, etc. This is critical because when I start watching tutorials, I'll be able to know exactly which part of the ukulele is which and it can speed up the process. I found the ukulele's "anatomy" on Google and I was able to learn some new terms such as "frets" and "rosette". I noticed that there was a tag that read "finger placement", so I clicked on it. The page refreshed and I saw a bunch of new images. I discovered something surprising. Each finger actually has a name! I'm assuming the fingers are named in order to make the tutorials easier for learners. My knowledge of this Hawaiian instrument grew as I scrolled through various images and studied them.
Reflection:
Although I haven't actually done a lot for this blog, I actually was able to learn a lot. All these facts about the ukulele that I have never known before has a found a home inside my brain. This has not affected my stress levels by much, although it was a nice change from the regular lessons from school. My patience wasn't altered either because I enjoyed learning about the instrument and did not feel the need to rush. However, my time management was definitely superior because after working on what I could finish in class, I was able to finish it at home without waiting for the last possible minute. I tried learning about the uke in my free time, so this definitely is a positive note!
